Chase Briscoe Reflects on Pit Road Chaos After Thrilling Runner-Up Finish

Chase Briscoe shared insight into the highs and lows of his race following a dramatic second-place finish, offering a candid Chase Briscoe pit road interview that delved into team performance, strategy, and challenges during the NASCAR Cup Series event. The intense outcome unfolded at a crucial time with Toyota aiming for a milestone victory, highlighting both strides forward and obstacles that shaped the day for Briscoe and his team.

Briscoe Analyzes Team Strengths and Pit Road Challenges

Briscoe began his debrief by pointing to the speedy Bass Pro Shops Toyota as a major advantage, while also acknowledging the day was far from flawless. He noted speed on the track provided a strong foundation, but organizational hurdles—including a problematic pit stop—created setbacks at pivotal moments. These moments on pit road, along with a mysterious issue on the left rear tire, kept the team scrambling to stay in contention.

“I would say our strength was our speed. We had a really good Bass Pro Shops Toyota. Our weakness was just the sloppiness, right? Whether it was me behind the wheel or pit road. I don’t know what the left rear issue was.”

Strategic Moves and Remarkable Recovery

Despite challenges, Briscoe highlighted the adaptability of crew chief James and the crew. Creative strategy decisions allowed the team to recover track position and remain contenders, even when faced with the setback of having less fresh rubber than rivals. Briscoe said these efforts underscored how well the car handled balancing resource gaps with performance. The possibility of capturing Toyota’s 200th Cup Series win was also on Briscoe’s mind, recognizing the significance for both manufacturer and team sponsors such as Bass Pro Shops.

“Great recovery. James did an amazing job of doing something different to get us up there, would have loved to battle up there and potentially try to be everybody’s favorite driver for Toyota’s 200th win. I was at a tire deficit. I thought our car, for having the tire deficit and everything else, showed how good it was.”

He also expressed appreciation for key figures supporting the team—Coach, Toyota, Johnny, and Bass Pro Shops—which he pointed to as instrumental in reaching such a prominent finish. Briscoe reflected on the progress since last year, emphasizing how meaningful it was to find himself fighting at the front for a top spot.

“Thankful again to Coach, Toyota, Johnny, everybody at Bass Pro Shops. The thing is a dream to drive. A year ago if you would have told me I was at this point second, I would have told you you were crazy.”

The importance of continuity in the season was front-of-mind, with Briscoe citing Darlington as one of the only tracks the team has visited twice. By heading into Bristol for their second attempt as a group, he hopes for an opportunity to build on recent gains and maintain upward momentum.
