Christopher Bell Reveals Why He’s Holding Off on Kyle Larson Indy 500

Christopher Bell has provided new insights into his intentions regarding the iconic Indy 500, particularly in the context of Kyle Larson Indy 500 participation. Bell addressed the topic during a recent podcast appearance, sharing why the prestigious race is not yet on his immediate agenda.

Bell Explains His Thoughts on Competing at the Indy 500

Speaking on Corey LaJoie’s Stacking Pennies podcast, Christopher Bell discussed the growing trend of crossovers in motorsports and reflected on Kyle Larson’s move into the Indy 500. When the conversation turned to his own plans, Bell explained his long-standing interest in entering the race:

“I have interest in running the Indy 500 and I had it before he [Kyle Larson] did it, for sure,”

Currently racing for Joe Gibbs Racing, Bell emphasized that his main priority remains with the NASCAR Cup Series at this point in his career. He made clear that shifting focus to the Indy 500 is not aligned with his immediate professional objectives, noting the importance he places on his present responsibilities.

Discussing the balance between ambitions, Bell elaborated on how the timing is a crucial factor for him:

“Maybe years down the road if it gets to the point to where I am a multi-time Cup Champion and a Coke 600 title is like, okay, well, I can sacrifice a little bit here to go do it. But I’m not there right now,”

Though he remains interested in running the Indy 500, Bell underscored his intention to maintain tight focus on his current commitments, stating his plans may shift as his career evolves:

“I want to make sure I focus on my day job and hopefully one day I’ll get to run the Indy 500. But it’s not in the near future,”

Focus on NASCAR Success Before Crossovers

Kyle Larson’s recent attempt at both the NASCAR Cup race and the Indy 500 has received considerable attention, showing fans and media the appeal and challenges of drivers participating across major motorsport events. While Larson managed the tight schedule and demands successfully, Bell acknowledged the substantial preparation required for such crossover efforts, especially when both events occur on the same weekend.

Bell’s strategy reflects his determination to establish himself as a top competitor in NASCAR before considering participating in other racing events like the Indy 500. He mentioned the importance of reaching milestones such as winning multiple Cup Series championships and the prestigious Coke 600, emphasizing that these goals take precedence over immediate crossover opportunities.

What This Means for Bell and the Indy 500

By outlining his position, Christopher Bell has clarified that while the Indy 500 remains an aspiration, his next steps will depend on his progress within the NASCAR Cup Series. For now, Bell’s disciplined approach keeps his focus on racing success at the highest level of stock car competition. Fans may look forward to a potential future appearance, but any plans for Bell to join Kyle Larson and other drivers at the Indy 500 will wait until he reaches his own milestones within NASCAR.
