Kyle Larson playoff hopes gained new momentum with his impressive seventh-place result at New Hampshire, following a challenging period on the NASCAR circuit. After climbing from 16th on the starting grid and overcoming a series of lackluster weekends, Larson is now poised to push hard for a Championship 4 spot as the postseason advances.
A Timely Turnaround in Form Boosts Larson’s Confidence
Since attempting to race in both the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 in May, Larson has found it difficult to consistently perform at the level expected of a 2021 Cup champion. However, his latest run at New Hampshire Motor Speedway served as an important confidence boost not just for him, but also for his Hendrick Motorsports team and supporters, who have watched him battle uncharacteristic results in recent events.
Speaking on Speedfreaks, Larson reflected on his chances in the current playoff run.
“We had a great Louden and we’re plus 41. We’re going to Kansas, a good track for us. Hopefully, we can have another good point stay and be well above the cut line before the Roval.”

Looking Ahead to Favorable Tracks
Larson detailed his optimistic outlook for the upcoming stretch, emphasizing the strengths he and his team have demonstrated on several key tracks.
“Get through this round, and then Vegas is a great track for us. So we could hopefully go there, be awesome to get a win, but if not, hopefully have a good points day. Talladega, I feel like we do a really good job on Speedways of gaining points and getting good finishes now this year. And then honestly, Martinsville has been one of our better tracks. So, I really like the next round.”

He acknowledged the increasing intensity as the playoffs progress, noting that with each successive round, both drivers and teams need to be at their very best. The competitive stakes mean small mistakes can have major consequences for anyone’s championship ambitions.

“So, it definitely gets tougher, but I definitely see a path for sure of us getting to race for a championship,”

Larson’s Track Record Signals Strong Potential
Currently third in the Cup Series standings and armed with three wins so far this season, Larson’s statistics make him stand out among top performers. This weekend’s return to Kansas Speedway brings renewed optimism, particularly after he led a record 221 laps on the same track in the regular season—a feat not previously achieved in a 400-mile race on a mile-and-a-half oval.
Since becoming part of Hendrick Motorsports in 2021, Larson has established himself as a dominant presence at Kansas, logging 760 laps led—far more than any other competitor during that span. His record with the team on similar 1.5-mile circuits is equally remarkable, boasting 10 victories across 34 starts—an impressive win percentage that further underlines his role as a leading championship contender.
At Kansas specifically, Larson has tallied three wins, nine top-five finishes, and 12 top-10s across 21 starts, averaging a finish of 12.4. The No. 5 driver has garnered strong support from both NASCAR fans and insiders, who view his current form and history at this venue as major factors in his playoff quest.
What’s on the Horizon as Playoffs Continue
With his recent turnaround and a stretch of tracks that suit his driving style, Kyle Larson heads into the upcoming rounds with positive energy and clear goals. As the playoff field tightens and the pressure mounts, Larson’s confidence and record at challenging circuits like the Roval, Vegas, Talladega, Martinsville, and especially Kansas, make his pursuit of another Cup Series title a storyline to watch closely within NASCAR this season.
