Legacy Motor Club Set for Charlotte Roval Showdown

Legacy Motor Club is primed for an important weekend as it heads into the highly anticipated Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval event, with the team’s drivers, ambassadors, and community initiatives set to play a prominent role both on and off the track. Featuring seasoned competitors like Jimmie Johnson and Erik Jones, and new efforts like the Window of Hope program, the Legacy Motor Club Charlotte Roval experience combines racing excellence with initiatives for breast cancer awareness.

Jimmie Johnson’s Expertise at the Charlotte Roval

Jimmie Johnson, co-owner of Legacy Motor Club and a seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion, brings significant experience to the Charlotte Roval. Over his three Cup Series starts at the Roval, Johnson consistently delivered strong results, finishing inside the top-10 twice. His standout performance came during the first-ever Roval race in September 2018, where he began in sixth and crossed the line in eighth place. He followed this with a ninth-place finish from fourth on the grid in 2019 and a thirteenth-place result in his final run on the course in 2020, starting back in thirtieth. Remarkably, Johnson completed every lap in all of his Roval appearances, demonstrating both skill and reliability.

Beyond just Charlotte, Johnson boasts a total of 41 Cup Series starts on road courses. His accomplishments on these tracks include one victory, nine top-five finishes, 20 top-10s, and leading 161 laps. Johnson’s most memorable road course win occurred at Sonoma Raceway in his home state of California in June 2010, when he started second, led the majority of the race, and finished more than three seconds ahead of Robby Gordon.

Matt Kenseth and the Advisory Team

Legacy MC’s depth extends to competition advisor Matt Kenseth, the 2003 NASCAR Cup Series Champion. Although Kenseth has only made one start at the Charlotte Roval, beginning in thirty-fourth and ending up twenty-third, his broader road course resume features 39 Cup Series starts. Highlights include two top-five and nine top-10 finishes, along with a near victory at Watkins Glen in 2017, where he finished second, mere tenths of a second behind Martin Truex Jr.

Community Engagement: Window of Hope for Breast Cancer Awareness

This week, Legacy MC aligns with the Erik Jones Foundation to participate in the Window of Hope program, which supports breast cancer research and awareness. All Legacy MC vehicles will feature distinctive pink window nets, symbolizing solidarity with the cause. Erik Jones took over the Window of Hope initiative from Kurt Busch in 2023, and the campaign has since raised over $50,000 in 2024 for cancer detection and care. Fans are encouraged to support the cause by bidding on the window nets at PristineAuction.com from October 1 to October 8, 2025.

Special tributes will be evident on the Legacy MC cars. John Hunter Nemechek will carry his grandmother’s name, Martha Nemechek, a breast cancer survivor, above his car’s door, while Erik Jones will feature names honoring both a survivor and a beloved NASCAR fan who lost her battle against the disease, as part of a broader show of support for breast cancer heroes throughout the weekend.

Fan Experience: Legacy Motor Club Shop Event

On Thursday, October 2, ahead of the Charlotte Roval race, Legacy MC opens its Statesville, North Carolina shop for fans from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will include autograph sessions with drivers and team ambassadors, shop tours, food trucks, and displays from team partners. These activities offer supporters a unique opportunity to engage with the organization and its racers before the action shifts to the track.

Podcast and Media Initiatives

Jimmie Johnson continues his off-track engagement with fans through the weekly podcast “Never Settle,” co-hosted with ESPN’s Marty Smith. The podcast, available on YouTube, provides insights into the team’s behind-the-scenes efforts and features interviews with key figures throughout NASCAR, further cementing the team’s connection to both racing and fan communities.

John Hunter Nemechek’s Road to the Roval

John Hunter Nemechek will be piloting the No. 42 Family Dollar Toyota Camry XSE as he tackles the Charlotte Roval for the third time in the Cup Series. While his best finish in this division at the Roval has been thirty-fourth, his NASCAR Xfinity Series track record is more promising, with two top-10 finishes out of as many starts, including a seventh place in September 2019. Crew chief Travis Mack, known for his strategic approach, brings additional experience with this being his fifth Cup Series Roval appearance. Mack’s best finish at the track came in 2024, when he and Shane Van Gisbergen secured a seventh-place result after starting on pole.

Team preparations included a recent test session at Kershaw, which has bolstered confidence and readiness going into the weekend. John Hunter Nemechek shared,

“I’m excited to race at home this weekend. We’re going to apply what we learned from our test at Kershaw and be ready to go for Sunday.”

— John Hunter Nemechek, Driver

Crew chief Travis Mack added his thoughts based on the Kershaw session, stating,

“We tested at Kershaw a few weeks back, and we learned a lot about the car and John Hunter’s driving style. We’ve been seeing speed at road courses, and with what we learned in Kershaw, I’m confident that we’ll have a good week.”

— Travis Mack, Crew Chief

Nemechek’s car will honor breast cancer fighters, including his grandmother Martha Nemechek, while the team participates in the Window of Hope initiative, highlighting their commitment to both competition and important social causes during the Charlotte Roval weekend.

Erik Jones Aims for Strong Roval Finish

For Erik Jones, the Bank of America Roval 400 marks his eighth Cup Series start at the challenging Charlotte road course. Jones’ best effort at the Roval came in October 2020, where he finished third after starting fourteenth—a result that remains his only top-10 at the track. He also recorded respectable results with an eleventh in 2022 and seventeenth in 2021. Crew chief Ben Beshore, who joined Jones in 2024 after prior successful runs with Kyle Busch, brings his own proven track record at the Roval, achieving podium finishes, including a third and fourth with Busch in previous years.

This weekend, Erik Jones’ car will display dedications to breast cancer heroes Stephanie Virginia Ellen and Amy Stein, placed on the passenger and driver’s side doors, respectively. These tributes serve as powerful reminders of the fight against breast cancer and reinforce the strong advocacy running through the Legacy MC camp.

Jones also played an active role in community awareness at the 13th annual “Paint the Wall event at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Together with other Cup Series drivers and 60 survivors, Jones helped paint the pit road wall pink, unveiling his car’s special pink-accented paint scheme for race weekend.

Erik Jones commented on the team’s road course progress, stating,

“The Charlotte ROVAL is a track that we’re ready to try some new stuff at. We’ve been working on our road course program all year, so I’m excited to get there and see if we can continue to improve on road courses. It’s always a good week to be home and race right down the road. There’s nothing like racing at Charlotte with how long this schedule is and how much travel is involved. Hoping we can get another good result here on Sunday.”

— Erik Jones, Driver

Crew chief Ben Beshore outlined the weekend’s technical approach, adding,

“The Charlotte ROVAL will be something. Our road course package is one area where we really need to put in a lot of work from a team standpoint. We haven’t had very good results on road courses this year. Maybe it’s a place where we can try something a little different from a setup or car build area to see if we can learn something going into the 2026 season. We’ll try to get a read on something new and try to use it as sort of a test for something to help us improve on our program next year.”

— Ben Beshore, Crew Chief

What the Weekend Means for Legacy Motor Club

The upcoming Charlotte Roval marks a significant opportunity for Legacy Motor Club to build on its competitive and community-focused efforts. With high-profile team members like Jimmie Johnson and Matt Kenseth providing leadership, and drivers such as John Hunter Nemechek and Erik Jones bringing energy and talent, the team is poised to contend at one of NASCAR’s most demanding road circuits.

Equally important, Legacy MC’s embrace of breast cancer awareness initiatives through visible tributes and fundraising amplifies their impact beyond racing, connecting with fans and communities on and off the track. As the club pushes to improve its road course performance and continues these advocacy efforts, the Charlotte Roval event is set to be a defining moment for the team and its supporters.
