Denny Hamlin House Fire: One Dead, One Critically Hurt

A tragic fire erupted on Sunday evening, December 28, at a residence on Blacksnake Road northeast of Stanley, North Carolina, resulting in one fatality and one person suffering life-threatening injuries. The incident, which involved the Denny Hamlin house, drew a swift response from Gaston County authorities and multiple fire departments.

Emergency Response and Details of the Incident

Authorities reported receiving calls after six o’clock reporting a home fully ablaze at the specified address, prompting a large-scale emergency response. According to officials, by the time first responders reached the scene, the fire had already consumed approximately forty to forty-five percent of the structure. Fire crews from as many as ten to twelve departments arrived to combat the intense flames, as no nearby fire hydrants complicated the operation and required that all firefighting water be transported to the site.

Occupants and Identities Remain Under Wraps

David Toomey, Chief of the Lucas-Riverbend Fire Department, confirmed to local media that the residence belonged to the parents of acclaimed NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin. Public records identify the property as owned by Won One Real Estate, a company operated by Hamlin. However, Chief Toomey did not specify if Hamlin’s parents were those hospitalized and, as of Monday afternoon, authorities have not released the names of the deceased or the critically injured individual. Both individuals were taken to the hospital after the incident.

Efforts to Save Valuables from the Blaze

Chief Toomey described the house as a “total loss.” Nonetheless, firefighters successfully preserved significant racing memorabilia and valuable vehicles stored in the garage.

“They had some really expensive cars in the garage and some racing memorabilia and stuff, so all that was saved,”

Toomey stated to The Athletic.

“We were able to save all that and get it out so it wasn’t damaged.”

Fire crews focused on protecting these important items even as the rest of the structure was lost to the flames.
