Kyle Busch Clinches Daytona 500 Pole in Chevy Dominance

Kyle Busch captured the pole position for the 68th DAYTONA 500 on Wednesday night, giving Chevrolet its series-leading 32nd pole win in the Great American Race. Busch, representing Richard Childress Racing and driving the No. 8 Chevrolet, set the fastest time in both rounds of qualifying, achieving a lap of 49.006 seconds, and fueled hopes for another Chevrolet victory with the team’s outstanding speed.

Chevrolet Pursues Fourth Consecutive Daytona 500 Title

This pole position puts Chevrolet in a strong spot to chase its fourth straight DAYTONA 500 championship crown. The remarkable effort from Busch, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, also marked his first-ever DAYTONA 500 pole in his career, delivering a boost to both himself and the whole Richard Childress Racing organization. Reflecting on the night, Busch shared,

“Certainly, here on Wednesday night, being able to get my first pole for the DAYTONA 500, that’s pretty special,”

said Busch.

“I’ve had one other speedway pole down here in Daytona for the summer race. This feels really good for RCR as a group. Everybody from ECR, thanks to Bob (Fisher) and his whole team there.”

Strong Team Effort and Expectations for Race Day

The accomplishment came with contributions from every corner of the Richard Childress Racing and ECR engineering teams. Busch acknowledged the group effort, the support of partners like Lucas Oil, and the importance of teamwork under first-time crew chief Jim Pohlman. He emphasized the goal for Sunday remains not just to start first, but to finish on top as well.

“This is special for all of us at Richard Childress Racing; for Richard and Jim Pohlman, with it being his first race as the crew chief. Obviously having the opportunity to come down here with fast speedway cars, and I’ve had fast speedway cars with RCR every time we’ve been here. It feels really good to sit on the pole and to have the No. 1 starting spot come Sunday. But we also want the No. 1 finishing position on Sunday.

Thank you to everyone at ECR; Lucas Oil for everything they do for our power; and all of our partners that support this No. 8 Chevrolet team.”

Refining Performance Ahead of the Main Event

As Busch and his team prepare for the main race, they remain focused on further improving their speed and race strategy. Busch noted their dedication to learning from previous races and expressed optimism about their chances.

“I think we learned some things last year at a couple of the speedway races. I feel like those guys have really tuned-in on those things that worked. I hope it turns out to be what we all think it should be for speed on Sunday. I’m sure we’ll find a little bit more about it tomorrow.”

Qualifying Sets the Stage for the Rest of the Field

While the front row is decided, the remaining starting spots for the DAYTONA 500 will be determined in the Duels at Daytona, scheduled for Thursday evening. Justin Allgaier, driving for JR Motorsports in their return to the NASCAR Cup Series, secured the 14th position, earning one of the open spots based on qualifying speed. The Duels, each 60 laps and 150 miles, will be broadcast by FS1, with additional coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.

Significance of Busch’s Achievement and What Comes Next

Kyle Busch’s pole win for the DAYTONA 500 not only highlights Chevrolet’s continued strength at Daytona International Speedway but also adds to his own accomplished resume. The momentum from this accomplishment energizes his team, partners like Lucas Oil, and Chevrolet’s ongoing pursuit of Daytona supremacy. With final adjustments still to be made before the green flag, all eyes will be on Busch and the No. 8 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet as they aim to convert their strong starting position into a victory in the crown jewel event.
