Kyle Busch Scores Record Ninth NASCAR Truck Series Win

Kyle Busch achieved a milestone Saturday afternoon at EchoPark Speedway, collecting his record-setting ninth career win in the Fr8 208 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race and marking his third consecutive victory in the event. The Kyle Busch NASCAR Truck Series legacy grew as he claimed his 68th overall series win after an intense finish that saw late drama and strategic teamwork.

Late-Race Shootout Defines Busch’s Victory

During the closing laps at EchoPark Speedway, Kyle Busch, 40, and longtime contender Stewart Friesen battled fiercely for the lead, reminiscent of their 2025 showdown at Atlanta’s high-speed oval where Friesen had narrowly missed out. This time, Busch, piloting the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet, regained the advantage thanks to a crucial push from his teammate Carson Hocevar during the last seven laps. The teamwork paid off as Busch held on to beat the field by a slim margin of 0.114 seconds, despite several trucks mounting late-race challenges.

Following Busch across the finish line, Hocevar claimed second in the No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet. Giovanni Ruggiero of TRICON Garage finished third, with ThorSport Racing’s Ben Rhodes and 2025 series champion Corey Heim rounding out the top five. Heim, a regular front-runner who won Stage 1, voiced frustration after the race, explaining he was unaware the event had been shortened under the Adverse Conditions rule and ended ten laps early compared to the scheduled 135 laps.

Teamwork and Tension at the Front

As challenging as the finish was, Busch credited his teammate’s crucial assistance in the decisive moments:

“Had a great teammate [Hocevar] behind me and have to give credit where credit is due. Early on was a little worried he wasn’t helping but there at the end he was right there. …definitely made it a whole lot easier.”

Ben Rhodes, hoping to celebrate his 29th birthday with a win, set the race pace for 70 laps and appeared a strong contender. However, running out of fuel during the middle portion forced him to recover from a two-lap deficit impressively, yet he could not outpace Busch during the closing stages. Stewart Friesen, fresh from a Stage 2 victory, pressed hard in the final phase but found Busch’s experience and Hocevar’s assistance too much to overcome.

Lead Changes and Intense Competition

The afternoon produced five different leaders and fourteen lead changes, highlighting the competitive depth of the field. Behind the podium finishers, last week’s Daytona winner Chandler Smith crossed the line in sixth, while Jake Garcia, the Saturday polesitter, claimed seventh. Notable NASCAR Cup Series participants John Hunter Nemechek and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. made appearances in the top ten, with Justin Haley rounding out the group and marking Kaulig Racing RAM’s return to Truck Series action for 2026.

Busch Reflects on Challenge and Rivalry

Despite his long history of success, Kyle Busch expressed that victory did not come easily this week. Reflecting on the race, he pointed to the evolving dynamics within the pack:

“If there was a confidence meter on me, the start of the race it was at a 100 but then as we got through the second stage of the race it was dipping, it was a 40 just because it seemed like everybody had talked, and no one was helping Kyle today,”

said Busch, himself a two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion whose last major series victory also came in trucks at Texas last April.

“Every time I pulled out of lane and looked for two or three to go with me in order to get to the front not one of them ever came to my rear bumper to push,”

Busch added, observing that rivals’ cooperation was increasingly rare this year.

“Just seemed like at the beginning and middle of the race I was having a tough time being able to make the moves I remember making last year by myself. Today is was harder to do that.”

Championship Standings and What’s Ahead

Front Row Motorsports’ Chandler Smith, with another strong finish, retained the points lead, sitting 28 markers ahead of TRICON Garage’s Giovanni Ruggiero early in the championship chase. Meanwhile, teams and drivers turn their focus to next weekend, as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debuts at the downtown St. Petersburg Road Course in the OnlyBulls Green Flag 150. Scheduled for Saturday at noon Eastern, this street event marks the first of its kind in the series, promising a fresh kind of challenge for veterans like Kyle Busch and emerging names such as John Hunter Nemechek, Stewart Friesen, and Carson Hocevar.

As the season continues, Busch’s record ninth win elevates both his place in the Kyle Busch NASCAR Truck Series history and the stakes for upcoming battles, ensuring fans and competitors alike can expect more dramatic finishes and shifting rivalries in the races ahead.
