Stefan Parsons Bio
Stefan Charles Parsons (born June 15, 1998) is an American professional stock car racing driver and spotter. He has competed part-time across the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series, the ARCA Menards Series, and the CARS Late Model Stock Tour. He also serves as a spotter for the No. 7 Spire Motorsports entry in the NASCAR Cup Series driven by Justin Haley. Parsons is known for filling in on short notice and for working with smaller, family-oriented teams throughout the southeast.
Early Life and Background
Stefan Charles Parsons was born on June 15, 1998, in Cornelius, North Carolina. He grew up around racing, with the sport a regular part of family conversation and weekend activity. His father, Phil Parsons, is a former NASCAR driver and team owner, and his uncle, Benny Parsons, was the 1973 NASCAR Cup Series champion.
Parsons began racing at the age of twelve after his father Phil received encouragement from Ken Ragan. That early push from his family helped him transition from go-karts and local tracks into the world of stock cars. Growing up near Charlotte also placed him close to the heart of NASCAR country, with shops, short tracks, and superspeedways all within a short drive.
Path to NASCAR
Parsons started his climb through the CARS Late Model Stock Tour in 2015, driving the No. 98 Ford for his father’s team, Phil Parsons Racing. He ran five races that season, then returned in 2016 for eight of ten events and finished twelfth in the overall points standings. In 2017, he drove the same car in six races, with his final outing coming in the No. 55 Ford.
Those Late Model seasons taught Parsons the basics of tire management, long-run pace, and race craft on a variety of track types. The experience also gave him a chance to work with family crew members and trusted engine builders. By the end of 2017, he was ready to move up to NASCAR’s national series.
Stefan Parsons Career
Early Career (2015–2017)
During his three seasons in the CARS Tour, Parsons focused on consistency and clean finishes rather than chasing short-track glory. Driving for his father’s team gave him steady seat time and allowed him to make mistakes without the pressure of a factory ride. He finished twelfth in 2016 points, his strongest series result in that era.
Parsons balanced Late Model racing with occasional ARCA Menards Series starts once 2019 arrived. Those early seasons built the foundation that would later help him step into a NASCAR Truck Series seat on short notice.
Craftsman Truck Series Breakthrough (2018–2022)
Parsons made his NASCAR debut in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2018, driving the No. 15 Chevrolet Silverado for Premium Motorsports at Bristol. He started 30th and finished seventeenth, a solid Truck debut. Later that year he returned to the team at Phoenix, where he started 24th and finished twentieth.
In 2019, Parsons drove the No. 1 Chevrolet for Beaver Motorsports at Las Vegas and later the No. 49 for CMI Motorsports at Charlotte with a paint scheme honoring the victims of the 2019 University of North Carolina at Charlotte shooting. He returned to CMI in 2020, driving a second No. 83 truck at Las Vegas.
After sitting out the 2021 Truck season, Parsons returned in 2022 at Sonoma as a last-minute replacement for G2G Racing, taking over the No. 46 truck when planned drivers were unable to start. He later drove the No. 20 for Young’s Motorsports at Nashville and Homestead-Miami. In 2023, he qualified the No. 12 truck for Young’s Motorsports at Circuit of the Americas after Spencer Boyd’s flight was delayed, then drove the team’s No. 20 at the Bristol dirt race and the No. 02 at Pocono. He closed the year driving the No. 25 for Rackley W.A.R. at Phoenix.
Xfinity Series Breakthrough (2019–2024)
Parsons ran his first NASCAR Xfinity Series race in July 2019 in the Circle K Firecracker 250 at Daytona International Speedway for B. J. McLeod Motorsports. Later that year at the Charlotte Roval, he relieved Cody Ware mid-race when Ware fell ill due to a damaged coolbox in his car.
He ran nine Xfinity races in 2020, with a best finish of eighteenth at Texas Motor Speedway, and returned to B. J. McLeod Motorsports and the No. 99 for another part-time schedule in 2021. In late 2021, the team announced he would drive full-time in the No. 99 in 2022, with sponsorship from Sokal Digital and Springrates Automotive, though his schedule was later reduced.
In 2022, Parsons also drove Alpha Prime Racing’s No. 45 in several events, his first time racing for a team other than McLeod’s since 2019, when he drove for JD Motorsports. In 2023, he ran a part-time Xfinity schedule primarily with SS-Green Light Racing, with two additional races for Alpha Prime Racing, including the Daytona season-opener in the No. 45 as a replacement for co-owner Caesar Bacarella. He returned to Alpha Prime at the 2024 Bristol night race, driving the No. 45 Chevrolet.
Current Team Era (2025–Present)
Heading into the target season, Parsons continues to balance part-time Truck and Xfinity schedules. In the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series he drives the Nos. 02 and 20 Chevrolet Silverado RSTs for Young’s Motorsports, with additional starts behind the wheel of the No. 7 Silverado RST for Spire Motorsports. In the NASCAR Xfinity Series he has run the No. 45 Chevrolet SS for Alpha Prime Racing and the No. 35 Chevrolet SS for Joey Gase Motorsports with Scott Osteen.
His primary role outside of driving has become spotting for the No. 7 Spire Motorsports team in the NASCAR Cup Series, where he works with Justin Haley. That job has given him a steady presence in the Cup garage and a chance to study superspeedway and intermediate-track racing at the highest level of the sport.
Driving Style and Strengths
Parsons is best known for his adaptability. He has shown comfort on short tracks, road courses, and intermediate ovals, and he has been called on repeatedly to step into unfamiliar cars at short notice. His calm approach behind the wheel and his ability to give clear feedback have made him a useful fit for young teams looking for an experienced hand.
Notable Races and Milestones
His Truck Series debut at Bristol in 2018 remains a signature moment, along with his emotional Charlotte race in 2019 honoring the UNC Charlotte shooting victims. The Sonoma weekend in 2022, where he stepped into G2G Racing’s truck just days before the race, is another defining memory of his career.
