The Bass Pro Shops Night Race is a premier NASCAR Cup Series event held at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee. It started in 1961 as the Volunteer 500 and became a Saturday night race in 1978. The race covers 500 laps on Bristol’s 0.533-mile concrete short track, totaling 266.5 miles. Known for intense heat, high speeds, and dramatic moments on the ultra-banked “Last Great Colosseum,” it is one of NASCAR’s most popular and challenging races. Since 2016, Bass Pro Shops has been the title sponsor. Traditionally held in late August, it moved to September in 2020, now serving as the final race in the NASCAR playoffs’ Round of 16.
