NASCAR All-Star Open
The NASCAR All-Star Open is a 100-lap qualifying race held prior to the main NASCAR All-Star Race. It gives drivers who are not automatically qualified a chance to secure one of the three available spots in the All-Star Race, with the top two finishers and a fan vote winner advancing. The Open features a competition break around lap 40 and can influence eligibility for the Manufacturer Showdown event. Eligibility for the All-Star Race includes recent race winners, past All-Star winners, and full-time Cup Series champions racing full-time.
Historically, the All-Star Open (formerly known as the Showdown) serves as the last-chance race for drivers to enter the All-Star Race, which began in 1985. The Open has evolved through various formats and name changes but remains a key part of the All-Star weekend, traditionally at Charlotte Motor Speedway though the event moves with the main race.
