Hettinger Racing Overview

Hettinger Racing is an American professional stock car racing team owned by Katie Hettinger and Chris Hettinger. The team currently competes in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, fielding the No. 5 Ford Mustang, and also runs entries in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour. Based in the United States, the organization has rapidly expanded its footprint across multiple NASCAR development series since its founding.

Established in 2024, Hettinger Racing emerged from the former Bret Holmes Racing organization, inheriting that team’s assets and owner points. The team has participated in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the ARCA Menards Series, and the ARCA Menards Series East, with Rackley Roofing serving as a primary sponsor. The Hettinger family continues to build a multi-car operation with car numbers 4, 5, and 71.

Hettinger Racing Competitive Journey

Hettinger Racing’s competitive journey began in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2024 and has since grown to include the ARCA Menards Series, the ARCA Menards Series East, and the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Across 16 recorded starts in sanctioned competition, the team has continued to develop its operations, personnel, and driver lineup while transitioning from a part-time Truck Series entrant to a full-time presence in NASCAR’s national stock car ladder.

Founding and Organizational Origins

Hettinger Racing was established in 2024 by Katie Hettinger and Chris Hettinger as an American professional stock car racing team. The organization was built on the foundation of the now-defunct Bret Holmes Racing, a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team that had previously fielded the No. 32 truck. By purchasing the owner points from that operation, the Hettinger family created a launching point for their own entry into national series competition.

The team’s initial structure centered on a single Truck Series entry, with Rackley Roofing coming on board as a primary sponsor. From the outset, the ownership group emphasized building a sustainable, multi-series operation capable of developing drivers and competing at progressively higher levels of stock car racing.

Growth Into NASCAR Competition

Hettinger Racing made its competitive debut at Martinsville Speedway in the 2024 Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 200, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season finale, with Brett Moffitt behind the wheel of the newly renumbered No. 4 truck. The team followed that with a single ARCA Menards Series and ARCA Menards Series East combination start at Bristol Motor Speedway later that year, expanding into the development ladder of NASCAR.

During 2025, Hettinger Racing broadened its competitive footprint with additional starts in the ARCA Menards Series East, including an entry at Five Flags Speedway with Carson Brown driving the No. 4 Chevrolet. The team also returned to the Truck Series at Daytona with Mason Maggio, signaling continued growth and a deeper commitment to NASCAR’s development pathways.

Hettinger Racing Modern Program and Current Direction

The Hettinger Racing modern program is anchored by a full-time commitment to the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. On December 23, 2025, the team announced that it would field the No. 5 Ford Mustang full-time beginning in 2026, with Joe Williams Jr. named as the crew chief. The organization aligned with Ford as its manufacturer for its national series efforts.

The No. 5 car has been driven by a rotating lineup of drivers in 2026, beginning with Luke Fenhaus at Daytona International Speedway. Tyler Gonzalez attempted the race at Circuit of the Americas but failed to qualify, while Chandler Smith drove the No. 5 at Phoenix and Las Vegas. J. J. Yeley piloted the entry at Darlington and later at Rockingham, and Luke Baldwin was announced for a Martinsville start. The team also fields the No. 5 in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour with Chase Burrow.

Philosophy and Competitive Strengths

Hettinger Racing focuses on driver development and operational growth across multiple NASCAR-sanctioned series. By fielding different drivers in its primary car, the organization evaluates talent and builds experience for emerging racers while maintaining a consistent engineering and crew structure under the Ford banner.

Key Milestones and Major Moments

The team’s first major milestone was its NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut at Martinsville in 2024 with Brett Moffitt. Additional milestones include the ARCA Menards Series debut at Bristol in 2024, the launch of the full-time No. 5 Ford Mustang program in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series for 2026, and the announcement of Luke Baldwin as a Martinsville entrant.

Hettinger Racing Achievements and Results

Hettinger Racing is in the early stages of its competitive history and has yet to record a victory, pole position, or drivers’ championship across its series. The organization has, however, established a multi-car presence in NASCAR’s national and development series, with 16 recorded starts spanning the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, Truck Series, ARCA Menards Series, and ARCA Menards Series East.

O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Achievements

The team has made 10 recorded starts in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series with the No. 5 Ford Mustang, fielding drivers Luke Fenhaus, Tyler Gonzalez, Chandler Smith, J. J. Yeley, and Luke Baldwin across the 2026 season. While the team has not yet recorded a win or pole, it has completed its first season-opening run at Daytona and additional races at Phoenix, Las Vegas, Darlington, Rockingham, and Martinsville.

Series Achievements

Hettinger Racing has recorded 3 starts in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, 1 in the ARCA Menards Series, and 2 in the ARCA Menards Series East. The Truck Series debut at Martinsville in 2024 with Brett Moffitt marked the team’s first national series start, and the ARCA program has featured Dawson Sutton at Bristol and Carson Brown at Five Flags Speedway.
