BRT Wildcard Ford Track Debut: Blanchard Racing Team Tests Newest Gen3 Mustang Ahead of Major Unveil

BRT Wildcard Ford Track Debut: The Blanchard Racing Team (BRT) has rolled out its newest Gen3 Mustang, Chassis BRT002, for its first test run at Winton Motor Raceway. This significant move comes ahead of BRT’s full sponsor lineup and livery unveiling on September 6. The test run signals BRT’s intent to evolve into a two-car team, as it recently acquired a Teams Racing Charter from Tickford Racing.

Chassis BRT002 was driven by BRT Super2 driver Aaron Love and the returning Jake Kostecki during the testing. The car was completely in black, featuring Love’s surname and the #7. Chris Fitzgerald, who has been overseeing Love’s Super2 campaign this year, will engineer both drivers. The new Gen3 Mustang will join the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 and Repco Bathurst 1000 races, sharing a pit boom with BRT’s #3 CoolDrive Ford, co-principled by Tim Blanchard and Todd Hazelwood.

BRT has confirmed its plans to expand to two full-time main game entries starting in 2024. This announcement follows the team’s acquisition of a Teams Racing Charter from Tickford Racing, which recently downscaled its fleet to two cars. BRT Co-Principal Tim Blanchard stated, “The wildcard program is another key step in expanding BRT. The resources in preparing a second car are not small, but we are keen to utilize this program to develop the team.” The #7, prominently featured on the new Gen3 Mustang, has a rich history. It was last seen in competition with Andre Heimgartner of Kelly Grove Racing in 2021. The number has won the Great Race twice, most recently with Steven Richards, Greg Murphy, and Gibson Motorsport in 1999, and first with Bob Morris and John Fitzpatrick in 1976.

BRT002 will return to Winton Motor Raceway alongside other main-game Victorian teams and the Hazelwood/Blanchard car for enduro testing on Tuesday. This is part of BRT’s comprehensive strategy to ensure that the new Gen3 Mustang is fully prepared for the upcoming races, including the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 and Repco Bathurst 1000. The full sponsor lineup and livery for BRT’s new Gen3 Mustang will be officially unveiled on Saturday, September 6. This highly anticipated reveal is expected to provide more details on the team’s partnerships and visual identity for the new car.
