NASCAR Pros Inspire Students: Before the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series returned to Bristol Motor Speedway, Christian Eckes and Jake Garcia of Bill McAnally Racing made a special pit stop at Science Hill High School. They told the excited kids about their exciting experiences with NASCAR’s complicated organization and the many job options in racing.
Eckes showed off his race car, which looked like his #19 NAPA Chevrolet. They joined the exciting world of racing.
The University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH), known for racing jobs, showed off-track business. They said it was essential to help young players improve because they were the future of the sport.
Garcia said that young people are what will keep the sport going, so they should take part. He said it well: “That’s the future, for sure.”
Eckes likes to get his kids excited about running. He said, “It’s great that we’re out here to show everyone what racing is, how we got started, and what we love most about it.”
The event was more exciting because Bristol Motor Speedway President Jerry Caldwell asked kids to race trucks. UNOH pays for the marketing, sales, pit crew operations, and repairs for race fans.
Camdyn Cecil, a senior at Science Hill, talked to drivers about how they got into racing as part of her job to promote the CTE program. Cecil was surprised to hear that racing was a sport for more than just the driver.
Garcia, who had just ended, got along with the kids, both fans and players because they were both.
After winning Kansas, Eckes moved on to the Truck Series playoffs. He knew that Bristol was hard and that the Round of 8 playoffs were hard. Trials make him more determined.
The UNOH 200 starts at Bristol Motor Speedway on Thursday at 9 p.m. Eckes, Garcia, and other race fans can’t wait to climb the steep hills.
