Rookie Roster Shuffle: The upcoming Cup Series season is poised to welcome newcomers Zane Smith and Josh Berry as rookies. However, the driver roster shuffle continues, leaving seats open for fresh talent.
Stewart-Haas Racing’s #10 car, vacated by Aric Almirola’s retirement, remains unfilled. Kaulig Racing is yet to confirm AJ Allmendinger’s status with the #16 car, and uncertainty looms over Rick Ware Racing’s #15 car.
Rumors suggest a possible contender for the Tony Stewart-owned team. Noah Gragson, with a history in the Cup Series racing for the Jimmie Johnson co-owned Legacy Motor Club, faces speculation of taking over Almirola’s seat. Gragson’s previous stint witnessed challenges not solely attributed to him but also linked to the car’s performance.
Gragson encountered controversy, resulting in a NASCAR suspension for liking a racially insensitive post on social media. His reinstatement followed the successful completion of the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality program.
Considering a potential shift to Almirola’s seat, it could prove beneficial for both Gragson and the team. His track record in the Xfinity Series showcased his racing prowess, securing eight wins in 2022 with JR Motorsports. Notably, his teammate at the time, Josh Berry, secured three wins in the same season.
If Gragson re-enters the Cup Series, aligning with a stronger team and a familiar teammate, such as Berry, the prospects may substantially differ. Immediate victories might not be guaranteed, but an improvement from his previous stint with LMC is anticipated.
