Richard Childress Expansion Plans: Richard Childress is eyeing an ambitious plan for Brodie Kostecki, aiming to involve the Supercars standout in as many as five NASCAR races next season. Kostecki, who honed his skills in NASCAR’s developmental leagues during his formative years in the US, made his debut in the Cup Series at Indianapolis in August, driving an additional car for RCR.
Childress, enthusiastic about the 26-year-old’s potential, took a track tour at Adelaide alongside Kostecki, expressing a desire to field him in multiple races next year. Seeking sponsorships to materialize this, the veteran owner is in Adelaide, exploring opportunities.
“We’re currently working on arrangements. We’re interested in having him compete in a couple of road courses and possibly an oval,” Childress shared, hinting at expanded prospects for the West Australian driver.
When asked about the likelihood of Kostecki becoming a full-time RCR driver, Childress remarked, “At some point…”
In the 2023 V8 Supercars championship, Brodie Kostecki is a top contender for the title, with Shane Van Gisbergen also vying for the championship at the Adelaide season finale.
Richard Childress, who offered Kostecki a Cup Series debut, will be present at the championship showdown. Expressing his intentions, Childress aims to entice the Supercars driver for participation in four or five races next season.
The 78-year-old owner plans to engage potential sponsors for Kostecki’s upcoming rides. Additionally, he aims to have Kostecki race on an oval track.
According to Kostecki’s manager, the goal is for the Australian driver to compete in up to three NASCAR Cup Series races next year. While Kostecki concentrates on pursuing the 2023 Supercars title, his agent Nathan Cayzer is exploring the possibility of a slightly expanded American campaign.
Having recently made a one-time appearance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last month, Kostecki’s return to NASCAR won’t materialize until 2024.
Richard Childress Racing is eager to have him back, and they’ve been vocal about it,” Cayzer conveyed to V8 Sleuth.
When the schedules are finalized, ensuring our primary focus is here, then we’ll explore next year’s NASCAR plans, aligning our schedules for mutual benefit.
Cayzer expressed that aiming for two or three events would be optimal for Kostecki’s prospective NASCAR participation.
