Jake Johnson Wins NASCAR: Not long ago, Jake Johnson took his initial laps in a Modified machine. Flash forward to the 2023 season, and this 20-year-old from Rehoboth, Massachusetts now proudly holds the title of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Sunoco Rookie of the Year.
Behind the wheel of the iconic Ole Blue No. 3 for Boehler Racing Enterprises, Johnson appeared in 13 out of 18 races during the 2023 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season. He shared driving duties in the car with Bryan Narducci.
Having made six starts in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour last season, Johnson impressively secured one top-five finish and added seven top-10 finishes during his 13 appearances in 2023.
His most remarkable performance came in the final race of 2023 at Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Oct. 8.
Exhibiting one of the day’s quickest cars, Johnson fiercely battled championship contenders Ron Silk and Justin Bonsignore at the forefront for much of the race. He commanded for 22 laps that afternoon, ultimately securing a career-best second-place finish behind Silk.
With 19 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour starts spread over two seasons, Johnson has already claimed three top-five and 11 top-10 finishes, along with two Mayhew Tools Dominator Pole Awards.
These statistics foreshadow a promising future for the 2023 Sunoco Rookie of the Year in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
