Zilisch Grateful to Walk Away After Devastating Jesse Love Race Incident: ‘Best Friend’ Checks on Him Post-Crash

In a dramatic conclusion to the NASCAR Xfinity race at Talladega, friends Jesse Love and Connor Zilisch found themselves at the center of a shocking incident that left Zilisch grateful to walk away unharmed. On the final lap, Love attempted a bold maneuver to take the lead, but the move resulted in disaster, spinning Zilisch into the inside wall where he hit nose-first. The impact was severe, lifting the rear tires of his car completely off the ground.

Despite the harrowing crash, Zilisch managed to exit his vehicle and was later evaluated at the infield care center, where he was checked and released. Meanwhile, Love crossed the finish line in third place, with teammate Austin Hill celebrating victory by claiming the checkered flag.

“I just got really good pushes there at the end,” said Love, reflecting on the intense finish. “I was able to lift enough off of (Turn) 2 to get big pushes. I kind of thought we made our bed and were not in a good spot to win, and then I was able to get Austin [Hill] connected to me and he was able to give me some good pushes down the backstretch for a few laps. It was definitely tough how that ended. I hope my friend is okay.”

Love, prioritizing his friendship with Zilisch, refrained from making comments about the incident right away, stating, “I’m not going to comment on what I thought happened there yet. I just want to go check on him and make sure he’s alright. Looked like a really hard hit, and he really hasn’t taken many hard hits yet.”

After finishing his post-race duties, Love quickly rushed to the infield care center to check on Zilisch and express his concerns. Zilisch shared his perspective on the incident, saying, “That was one of the wrecks when you move the legs and make sure everything feels okay afterwards. Very grateful to drive safe JR Motorsports race cars. We were in the right spot. I haven’t really watched it close enough to see what happened, but grateful to be up and walking.”

He also took a moment to emphasize the importance of their friendship, stating, “Jesse’s probably my best friend in the world. Grateful to have someone like him who can come and stand in front of me and give me a hug after that.”

In this race that ultimately ended in disappointment for Zilisch, who finished in 27th place after recording a DNF, the bond between him and Jesse Love was reaffirmed, showcasing the sport’s intensity alongside the fundamental friendships that endure beneath the competitive spirit.
