Justin Allgaier crash at Texas Xfinity Series ends win hopes after repeat run-in with slow car

Justin Allgaier’s championship hopes took a devastating hit at the Texas Xfinity Series, as his determined run ended in an abrupt crash on Saturday, dashing what looked to be a strong shot at another season victory. After dominating much of the day and leading a race-high 99 laps at Texas Motor Speedway, Allgaier’s race unraveled following a recurring encounter with a slower car, abruptly ending his quest for a third 2025 win and marking his first DNF of the season.

The event saw Justin Allgaier going toe-to-toe with Kyle Larson, with both drivers showcasing impressive speed for JR Motorsports. Their thrilling challenge was cut short after both encountered trouble approaching a round of green-flag pit stops. Forced to react to Kris Wright’s suddenly slow car moving up the track, both Allgaier and Larson narrowly averted disaster on that initial encounter. However, this close call would not be the last Justin Allgaier would have with Wright during the high-stakes race.

As the pit cycle reshuffled the order, Larson managed to seize the lead, but Justin Allgaier worked fiercely to regain lost ground. Entering Turns 3 and 4, Allgaier once again met Wright’s off-pace No. 5 machine. The car struggled to maintain its line, drifting at corner exit, where confusion between the two led to devastating contact. Allgaier’s car was sent hard into the outside wall, obliterating his hopes for a win and sending frustration coursing through his team and fans alike.

Kris Wright, meanwhile, remained on track but ultimately finished a distant 33rd, nine laps down. Over the radio, Wright expressed that he only wanted to get out of the way, sharing his sentiments with his crew. After clearing the infield care center, Justin Allgaier gave his perspective, sounding both exasperated and disappointed.

Well, we almost got wiped out right before the green-flag stop by the same car,

Allgaier said.

I went to the middle of (Turns) 3 and 4 there. He went up and then turned down and then came back up. Then I tried to go to the bottom and he lifted and went back down. Just a frustrating day.

The crash resulted in a 35th-place finish—by far Justin Allgaier’s worst of the season.

I hate it for all of our guys,

he admitted.

Obviously, we had a really fast car. Having a great battle with Kyle [Larson] there. We lost a little bit of a time on that pit stop, but I still thought if the race played out the way that it should, we were going to have a great shot at it. I’m frustrated today. I’m frustrated at myself. I’ll just go back and watch the film and figure out what I can do different.

This painful setback could significantly alter Justin Allgaier’s momentum as the Xfinity Series moves into the next stage, raising new questions about how he and his team will recover. The mishap sends shockwaves through the championship landscape, serving as a stark reminder of how quickly fortunes can change in NASCAR. For now, Allgaier and his fans are left grappling with disappointment, uncertainty, and the turbulent aftermath of an opportunity lost at Texas.
