Ty Dillon‘s Track Record and Expectations at Darlington
This weekend marks Ty Dillon’s 12th Cup Series start at Darlington Raceway during the Cook Out Southern 500. Dillon’s best Cup finish on the track was 12th in 2022, and he has led eight laps at the venue in top-level competition. Earlier in the year, Dillon started 29th in the Goodyear 400, swiftly advanced through the field, earned stage points in the second segment, and finished 16th. His Xfinity Series resume at Darlington features nine starts with three top-10s and a best finish of seventh in 2017, with eight of those races ending inside the top 19. Dillon also has a ninth-place result from his lone Truck Series appearance at Darlington in 2024.
“This is a big race for us. Darlington is one of the top two tracks on my list with Bristol. I love going to Darlington and how you feel like you’ve gone back in time with the old school track and old school vibe. I’ve always done well there, and we had a good run at the track earlier this year. It’s nice to go back to a track for the second time. It’s one of our longest races, and conditioning, especially in this late summer heat, is going to be a lot. I’m looking forward to it and have a lot of high hopes and confidence going in to this weekend.”

No. 16 Team: AJ Allmendinger and Crew Chief Trent Owens Lead the Way
AJ Allmendinger will pilot the No. 16 Black’s Tire Service Camaro ZL1, with crew chief Trent Owens guiding the effort as the team enjoys hometown backing from BTS, one of the region’s leading family-owned tire sellers and wholesalers, with over 70 locations in the Carolinas. This weekend, the No. 16 car will feature the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina logo prominently, reinforcing the team’s efforts to back local youth services and highlight the upcoming BTS charity golf tournament.
Allmendinger’s history at Darlington includes a top-15 finish in the 2023 Southern 500 with Kaulig Racing, his first such result there since 2014. In the current Cup Series season, Allmendinger has recorded one top-five finish, five top-10s, 22 laps led, and 61 stage points, reflecting steady progress and consistent pace.
“The Southern 500 is the most physically demanding race that we have during our season. We’ve had good speed the last couple times there; it’ll be a challenge, but it’s one I’m looking forward to. Our goal in these last 10 races is to finish out strong and build momentum with our group. This is an important race to go do that at and we plan to execute.”
