RFK Racing Honors First Employee Edgar’s Retirement After 46 Years

RFK Racing recently celebrated the retirement of their very first employee, Edgar, shining a light on his decades of service and his journey in motorsports. The announcement, which highlighted the RFK Racing employee retirement, signified the end of an era for the NASCAR team and marked Edgar’s remarkable contributions since he joined in 1978.

Edgar’s Origins and Lasting Impact on RFK Racing

Edgar’s story with RFK Racing began in Puerto Rico in the late 1970s when he met Jack Roush at a local drag race. Recognizing Edgar’s extraordinary abilities and deep enthusiasm for engines, Roush offered him a position, officially bringing him on as the team’s first employee. From that moment in 1978, Edgar steadily rose to prominence as one of the top engine tuners in NASCAR, playing a significant role in the success of the organization for 46 years.

Among his many achievements, Edgar was instrumental in tuning some of the most successful engines in NASCAR history. Notably, his expertise contributed to Mark Martin’s No. 60 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series car, which enjoyed numerous victories under his guidance. Edgar spent his later years at the organization as an Assembly Mechanic, continuing to support and mentor younger team members.

“Today Jack Roush bid farewell to his FIRST ever employee,” and included a quote from Roush himself: “Edgar is an example of the very best of our employees that have helped us have the success with wins and championships that we’ve had.”

To honor Edgar’s loyal service, Jack Roush commemorated the occasion by presenting him with a custom RFK Racing helmet and a new toolbox, symbols of both gratitude and the legacy Edgar leaves behind as he enters retirement.

Looking Ahead: Team Aspirations and Recent Changes

While recognizing its most loyal team member, RFK Racing also reflected on its future. During a discussion at Phoenix Raceway before the NASCAR Cup Series season finale, team co-owner and driver Brad Keselowski shared his outlook for the upcoming year. Summing up the 2025 season, Keselowski emphasized the recurring close finishes that defined much of the campaign. He underlined the need to convert those near wins into actual victories to move the team forward.

The recent season wrapped up with Keselowski narrowly missing a win, finishing just behind Ryan Blaney after an overtime restart in the last race. Although the team did not visit victory lane, this result, along with their consistent performances, suggested a solid foundation for growth as they edge closer to 2026.

In 2025, RFK Racing returned to running three full-time cars—a first since 2016. The addition of Ryan Preece to the No. 60 Ford rounded out the lineup beside Keselowski and Chris Buescher. According to Keselowski, this expansion enhanced the team’s competitiveness and did not negatively affect their overall operations.

“Actually, it’s been really good, adding a third team,” he said. “Hardly any area I would say it’s hurt us at all.”

The organization also announced key leadership changes, appointing Chip Bowers as the new team president. Bowers takes over this crucial role from Steve Newmark, offering a fresh perspective as the team continues to evolve.

Both Keselowski and Buescher acknowledged that, despite missing out on some opportunities, there were multiple moments where the team demonstrated their growth. Buescher remarked on the progress, yet noted there was still work to be done to achieve a breakthrough in victories.

“It’s just a good year without being stellar,” he said.

The Road Forward for RFK Racing

Following Edgar’s celebrated retirement, RFK Racing faces a period of both transition and optimism. The combination of experienced leadership shifts, expanded driver roster, and the ambition to transition potential into actual wins sets the stage for the organization’s next chapter. The commitment of figures like Jack Roush, Brad Keselowski, and Chris Buescher continues to inspire not only the team but also the broader NASCAR community.

As RFK Racing honors the legacy of its first employee, Edgar, and prepares for the challenges and opportunities of a new season, the team remains energized and focused on building upon decades of dedication, with eyes on future victor’s circles and the ongoing pursuit of championships in NASCAR.
