JR Motorsports unveils new 2026 crew chief lineup shake-up

JR Motorsports has revealed their strategic plans for the 2026 O’Reilly Auto Parts Series by updating the JR Motorsports crew chief lineup, with changes impacting several drivers and crew members for the upcoming season. The most significant adjustment sees Andrew Overstreet moving to guide 2024 series champion Justin Allgaier in the new campaign.

Major Updates to the 2026 Crew Chief Roles

As part of the reshuffle, Cory Shea has been elevated from a part-time position on the No. 9 car to take over as Sammy Smith’s full-time crew chief. Additionally, Rodney Childers was tapped in late September to lead the crew for the No. 1 car. Childers brings his expertise to partner with young drivers Carson Kvapil and Connor Zilisch, both of whom are expected to benefit from this leadership.

Returning Leaders and New Team Members

Mardy Lindley, fresh from securing 11 victories as a crew chief in 2025, will return to manage the No. 88 entry for JR Motorsports. This car will see Rajah Caruth compete on a part-time basis. The lineup also welcomes Phillip Bell, who joins as the crew chief for the No. 9 team. Shane van Gisbergen and Ross Chastain are slated to share driving duties for this car on a part-time basis as well.

Looking Ahead to the Season

The new JR Motorsports crew chief lineup points to a season of both stability and new energy within the team. With key figures like Andrew Overstreet, Rodney Childers, and Mardy Lindley in critical crew chief positions, and a mix of experienced drivers such as Justin Allgaier and new contenders like Sammy Smith, the organization appears equipped for competitive racing and further development as the 2026 O’Reilly Auto Parts Series approaches.
