Young’s Motorsports Overview
Young’s Motorsports is an American professional stock car racing team owned by Randy Young and Tyler Young and based in Mooresville, North Carolina. The organization fields Chevrolet race cars and trucks across national stock car series, including the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the ARCA Menards Series, and operates part-time entries in regional O’Reilly Auto Parts Series competition.
Founding and Organizational Origins
Young’s Motorsports opened in 2012 with a focus on competing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The team was launched by the Young family to provide a platform for its own drivers and to operate a professional, flexible race program; Tyler Young served as one of the early drivers while the ownership and management established a race shop in Mooresville.
From the outset the organization built a structure designed to support a mix of full-time and part-time entries, using partnerships and owner points where needed to sustain operations and broaden its driver lineup. Early years emphasized learning the logistics of national touring series, growing a technical staff, and developing relationships with sponsors and driver partners that would allow the team to expand into additional series.
Growth Into NASCAR Competition
Young’s Motorsports made its national series debut in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2012 at the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 in Rockingham and pursued full-season effort by 2014. The team gradually increased its program scale, fielding multiple truck numbers and a variety of drivers while also supplying start-and-park and funding-driven entries when operationally required.
After establishing a presence in Trucks, Young’s Motorsports expanded its operations into the ARCA Menards Series in 2021 with part-time entries and later entered the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2024. The expansion strategy prioritized driver development and flexible, event-by-event entries to manage costs while giving opportunities to emerging drivers and veterans alike.
Young’s Motorsports Competitive Journey
Across national and regional touring series, Young’s Motorsports has progressed from a single-truck operation into a multi-car organization that fields full-time and part-time entries in Trucks, part-time ARCA programs and an Xfinity program. The team has concentrated much of its on-track success in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series while using ARCA and Xfinity entries to expand driver development pathways.
Early Seasons and Development (2012–2016)
The team’s first seasons were focused on establishing consistent race operations in the Truck Series. Tyler Young ran a part-time schedule at the team’s debut in 2012 and Young’s Motorsports moved to a full-time Truck Series effort by 2014, learning the demands of a national program and refining crew and engineering functions during those formative years.
Between 2013 and 2016 the operation used a mix of paid and developmental drives to remain competitive, including occasional technical and owner-points partnerships to maximize track access. Early sponsors and shared-ride arrangements helped the team build a shop infrastructure and a technical core while managing the fluctuating economics of the Truck Series.
Breakthrough in NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (2017–2023)
Young’s Motorsports established itself as a regular competitor in the Truck Series through the late 2010s and into the early 2020s, expanding to multiple truck numbers and a rotating driver stable. The program recorded two verified Truck Series victories, highlighting its ability to win on superspeedways and in chaotic race finishes; Spencer Boyd was credited with a Talladega win in 2019 and Tate Fogleman provided a Talladega victory on October 2, 2021.
Over this period the team fielded several trucks numbered 02, 12 and 20, among others, and relied on a mix of full-season drivers, part-time specialists and veteran fill-ins. Notable drivers through these years included Austin Hill, Spencer Boyd, Tate Fogleman, Kris Wright and others, while the operation continued to adapt to rule changes and competitive pressures within the series.
Breakthrough and Expansion in ARCA and Xfinity (2021–Present)
Young’s Motorsports moved into the ARCA Menards Series in 2021 with the No. 02 Chevrolet on a part-time basis and used that program to give seat time to emerging drivers such as Toni Breidinger, Connor Mosack and Leland Honeyman. The ARCA program served as a development path and testing ground for young talent in national oval and road-course events.
In 2024 the team expanded further into the NASCAR Xfinity Series with a new No. 42 entry; Leland Honeyman was announced as the initial full-time driver for that car. The Xfinity program gave the organization added exposure at a higher level of national competition and was followed by a 2025 announcement that Anthony Alfredo would drive the No. 42 full time, reflecting the team’s continued effort to grow its presence in NASCAR’s national ranks.
Modern Program and Current Direction (2024–Present)
As of 2025 Young’s Motorsports operates a multi-series program that includes full-time Truck Series entries, part-time and full-time ARCA efforts, an Xfinity Series car, and a regional O’Reilly Auto Parts Series entry. The team runs Chevrolet Silverado trucks and Chevrolet Camaro SS/stock cars and maintains its shop base in Mooresville while fielding both veteran and emerging drivers.
For the 2025 Truck Series season the organization announced Nathan Byrd would drive the No. 02 for the majority of the schedule, competing in fifteen of 25 races, while the No. 20 truck remains a part-time platform for drivers such as Stefan Parsons, Jordan Anderson, Mason Massey and Will Rodgers. The O’Reilly Auto Parts Series program fields the No. 02 full time for Ryan Ellis, and the ARCA No. 02 continues to operate on a part-time basis with drivers including Craig Bracken.
Engineering Philosophy and Competitive Strengths
Young’s Motorsports emphasizes versatility and driver development, operating flexible entries that allow the team to match drivers to programs and tracks. The team has demonstrated competitive strength on superspeedways and in strategic, opportunistic race finishes, and it leverages partnerships and a rotating driver stable to sustain operations across multiple series.
Key Milestones and Major Moments
Key moments for the team include its 2012 Truck Series debut, expansion into the ARCA Menards Series in 2021, entry into the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2024, and two Truck Series victories that underscore on-track potential. In 2024 Young’s acquired the No. 46 entry and placed Thad Moffitt in that truck for the remainder of the season after the number move, illustrating the team’s continuing operational growth.
Young’s Motorsports Achievements and Results
Through its national and regional participation Young’s Motorsports has competed in hundreds of races and recorded measurable results primarily in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The team’s verified statistics include more than 300 Truck Series starts and two Truck Series victories, and it has accumulated two pole positions across its programs.
Xfinity Series Achievements
Young’s Motorsports began Xfinity competition in 2024 and expanded its footprint in 2025 with a full-time driver announcement for the No. 42 car. The Xfinity program remains in an early growth phase and does not yet include national series wins, but it represents a strategic move upward for the organization.
Truck Series and Development Program Success
The Truck Series is where Young’s Motorsports has achieved its primary competitive success. The team has two confirmed Truck Series victories, including a race at Talladega credited to Spencer Boyd in 2019 and a Talladega victory by Tate Fogleman on October 2, 2021. Young’s also fields multiple truck numbers to support driver development and routinely places part-time rides to give seat time to both young drivers and experienced veterans.
Overall the team has entered hundreds of national events across Truck, ARCA and Xfinity competition, recorded two race victories and two pole positions, and has remained an active independent team based in the heart of NASCAR country as it expands its multi-series footprint.
