Phoenix Fireworks: Blaney’s Close Call, Custer’s Triumph, and Ford’s Roaring Victory

Phoenix Fireworks: Ryan Blaney secured his inaugural NASCAR Cup title in a thrilling battle at Phoenix, finishing just behind race winner Ross Chastain. Hendrick driver William Byron led for 95 laps, dominating the first 92 and more. The other Hendrick driver in the Chase, Kyle Larson, finished third without leading a lap. Chris Buescher took fifth later in the race. Despite multiple attempts, Blaney couldn’t hold the lead against Chastain and Byron. Chastain ultimately claimed his fourth career victory, with Blaney finishing second.

Caution flags were minimal, with only four for single-car incidents. In a parting gift for the retiring Kevin Harvick, he secured his 21st top-10 run of the season. Harvick is set to transition to a TV color commentary role next season.

In the Xfinity series finale, Cole Custer won the race and clinched his first NASCAR title, narrowly beating Sheldon Creed and Justin Allgaier. The Saturday race featured several lead changes, with Custer taking the lead for the final time on lap 189 and securing his 11th career win. The race had eight caution flags for mostly one-car incidents.

In the Truck series, Ben Rhodes clinched the series title, narrowly beating Grant Enfinger. Christian Eckes won the final truck race in Phoenix over Jake Garcia and Chase Purdy. Rhodes barely edged Enfinger for fifth place and the 2023 truck championship.
