Former Formula 1 champion Jenson Button is set to join forces with Jordan Taylor, Louis Deletraz, and Colton Herta, steering the #40 Acura ARX-06 GTP as the formidable four-time Daytona 24 Hours winning team gears up to field two cars in the upcoming 2024 IMSA SportsCar Championship season.
This venture marks Button’s second foray into IMSA, following his debut at Petit Le Mans with JDC-Miller Motorsports’ Porsche 963.
Ericsson, fresh off his triumph at the 2022 Indianapolis 500 and now an Andretti IndyCar recruit, completes the roster for the team’s existing #10 entry, alongside Ricky Taylor, Filipe Albuquerque, and Brendon Hartley.
Despite his relative newness to IMSA, Button boasts prior appearances in the Le Mans 24 Hours, notably racing the Hendrick Motorsports-prepared Chevrolet Camaro Garage 56 entry last year. Collaborating closely with Jordan Taylor, he gained valuable experience within a supporting capacity.
Reflecting on his IMSA debut, Button remarked, “I had my first taste of IMSA last month at Petit Le Mans and loved it. I couldnt be happier to race at Daytona with such a prestigious team that has achieved so much in endurance racing and especially at Daytona.”
Ericsson, embarking on his second Daytona start, expressed eagerness for the iconic race, stating, “After getting a taste of the race in 2022, I have been eager to get back on the grid for this legendary race. It feels fantastic to be racing with one of the best and most successful teams in the sport!”
The renowned Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) previously secured Daytona triumphs in 2017, 2019, 2020, and post-transition to Acura machinery in 2021. Taylor praised Ericsson as the perfect fit for their team’s ethos and expressed delight over Button’s inclusion after years of discussions.
In a testament to their anticipation, WTR Andretti expands into the GTD ranks by fielding a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 for Super Trofeo North America champions Danny Formal and Kyle Marcelli.
