Hendrick Motorsports: Pinnacle of NASCAR Racing Legacy and Milestone

Pinnacle of NASCAR Racing: In NASCAR’s rich history, numerous teams have shone brightly, but one outfit stands as the pinnacle – Hendrick Motorsports.

By the numbers, Hendrick’s dominance is undeniable: 301 Cup Series victories and 14 Cup championships, both unrivaled records. Founded modestly in 1984, Hendrick Motorsports swiftly ascended to rule stock car racing.

Jeff Gordon, with 93 wins, and Jimmie Johnson, contributing 83, powered the lion’s share of the team’s triumphs. Presently, a stellar roster, including Chase Elliott (18), Kyle Larson (17), William Byron (10), and Alex Bowman (7), keeps the victories flowing.

Team owner Rick Hendrick’s accolades extend beyond the racetrack; his automotive passion will be celebrated at The Amelia, an esteemed car collector event in Amelia Island, Florida. Renowned for collecting classic and modern automobiles, Hendrick also stands as one of the nation’s foremost auto dealers.

While Hendrick Motorsports remains a dominant force in NASCAR, other teams have etched their names in the sport’s 75-year history.

Prior to Hendrick’s four-decade reign, Petty Enterprises took the spotlight. Established in 1949 by racing trailblazer Lee Petty, the team amassed 268 victories, including 196 by Richard Petty, who secured a record 200 wins, including a staggering 27 victories in 1967, including a mesmerizing 10 in a row.

Joe Gibbs Racing claims the third spot with 208 wins, commencing its racing journey in 1991. A roster boasting names like Dale Jarrett, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Bobby Labonte, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, and Christopher Bell propelled JGR’s success.

Further down the list, Junior Johnson and Associates clinched 153 victories, thriving in the 1970s and 1980s. The likes of Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip added glory to the Johnson cars.

Team Penske and Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing follow closely with 142 and 141 wins, respectively. Richard Childress Racing stands at 116 victories, with Dale Earnhardt commanding a significant share.

Wood Brothers Racing is set to hit the century mark with its next win.

In 2023, Hendrick achieved milestones: William Byron secured the team’s 300th Cup victory at Texas Motor Speedway, and Kyle Larson claimed the 500th NASCAR national series win for Hendrick’s engine department at Darlington Raceway.

In 2024, the team eyes another milestone: 80,000 laps led in Cup racing, needing only 243 laps to reach that mark. Notably, Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson collectively led almost 44,000 laps for Hendrick, underscoring the team’s enduring prowess.
