Corey Heim dominates NASCAR Truck Series at Charlotte, making a powerful statement by winning the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 on Friday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In an impressive show of speed and strategy, Heim led the majority of laps and captured his fourth victory of the season, solidifying a commanding lead in the championship battle.
Record-Breaking Night at Charlotte for Heim
Heim’s season had seen signs of promise, but Friday marked a turning point. After previously struggling to convert dominant runs into wins, he delivered a nearly flawless performance in the No. 11 TRICON Garage toyota/”>Toyota. Heim took control early, leading 98 of 134 laps and crossing the finish line 6.229 seconds ahead of Ross Chastain, his closest rival. This marked Heim’s first ever win at Charlotte and his 15th career victory in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series.
Reaching his 15th win, Heim drew level with Matt Crafton for 10th on the all-time list, becoming, at just 22 years old, the youngest driver to achieve this milestone. Not only did he win, but he also achieved a series sweep by taking both the opening stages and setting the fastest lap, gathering the maximum 61 possible points and vastly extending his points lead. His victory margin set a new series record at Charlotte.

Teams Struggle to Match Heim’s Pace
Ross Chastain, who delivered the best finish among the Neice Motorsports chevrolet/”>Chevrolet drivers, had no answer to Heim’s dominant run, finishing a distant second. Chastain was joined in the top seven by his teammates Kaden Honeycutt in third and Matt Mills in seventh, but none could catch up to the No. 11 truck on extended runs.
Obviously, it was such a good truck. I had to execute on my part. The pit crew did a great job. Just a really nice clean day. … It feels great. It feels like we’ve had a lot of opportunities to do that this year, really. Just can’t say enough about these guys. My team gave me a great Tundra, and we just really checked all of the boxes tonight. It feels great.
—Corey Heim, Race Winner
Best in class,” Chastain said of his own effort. “The 11 (Heim) is the best in the field right now, and none of us had anything for him. The 7 (Kyle Busch), the 38 (Smith), the 34 (Layne Riggs)—it was a heck of a race (for second) back there between us, but we’ve got to make it last longer.
—Ross Chastain, Second Place Finisher
After the leaders, Layne Riggs and Kyle Busch closed out the top five with strong efforts. Grant Enfinger, Mills, Daniel Hemric, Rajah Caruth, and Brandon Jones rounded out the rest of the top ten, each battling for valuable points in the series.
Challenges and Setbacks for Other Contenders
Chandler Smith, who started with high expectations after his recent win at North Wilkesboro, saw his night end prematurely. Smith was caught in a multi-car wreck on Lap 71, involving Gio Ruggiero, Ty Majeski, and Connor Mosack. Smith became the night’s first retiree, ultimately finishing 34th. This incident opened the door for Heim to further increase his points advantage in the championship standings.
Throughout the night, caution periods were limited, totaling only three for 20 laps, with two coming as stage breaks, allowing for mostly uninterrupted racing and contributing to Heim’s dominant margin.
Looking Ahead in the Truck Series Season
With no 1.5-mile intermediate speedways left on this year’s NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series schedule, Heim’s main advantage as a dominant force on these tracks has been fully realized. The championship leader looks ahead to continuing his momentum as the series prepares for the next race, the Rackley Roofing 200 at Nashville Superspeedway, set for May 30.
Heim’s latest performance boosts his credibility as a strong favorite for the championship, placing pressure on drivers such as Chastain, Chandler Smith, and Kyle Busch to close the gap. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Charlotte’s victor to see if he can continue his domination and secure the title.
