Kyle Busch aims for Summer Shootout record with eighth win in 2026 after dominant Masters Division run

Kyle Busch aims for a Summer Shootout record after clinching his seventh victory in eight attempts this season at Charlotte Motor Speedway, setting his sights on an unprecedented eighth win in 2026. As the 2025 Cook Out Summer Shootout wrapped up on July 29, Busch’s standout performance in the Masters Division drew attention from the racing community and heightened expectations for next year.

Busch’s Strong Season in the Masters Division

This summer, Kyle Busch showcased dominance on Charlotte’s quarter-mile oval by starting from the pole position and leading every lap in the Masters Division feature. His string of victories marked seven wins in just eight starts, underscoring his continued strength in the Summer Shootout. Despite his efforts, the season title ultimately went to Robby Faggart, who maintained a 47-point edge over Busch to secure the 2025 Masters crown.

The Summer Shootout this year faced hurdles, including persistent weather delays throughout the opening weeks and severe temperatures that challenged both equipment and drivers. Yet, Busch’s consistent presence at the front of the field was a constant narrative, keeping fans and competitors focused on his quest for the all-time win record.

The broader Summer Shootout series continued its tradition of drawing elite talent, with Trackhouse Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen capturing the Pro Legends division win after starting third. The INEX national calendar moves forward this fall with the Bandolero Nationals returning to Charlotte, followed by major events on both road and dirt courses.

Ongoing NASCAR Cup Challenges and Truck Series Success

While Busch has been prolific in the Masters Division, his 2025 NASCAR Cup season has proven turbulent. He currently stands at 15th in the Cup points race, holding 478 points with four events left in the regular season. The campaign for a win has been elusive, as highlighted by a string of top-10 finishes but no trips to Victory Lane thus far. Nevertheless, Busch did celebrate a notable achievement by securing his 67th Truck Series win at Atlanta, leading 80 laps and fending off Stewart Friesen in the Fr8 208.

Reflecting on his Cup performance, Busch has racked up seven top-10 finishes this year, including a strong fifth-place showing at the Circuit of the Americas and a comeback in the Chicago Street Race, where he recovered from an early mishap to place within the top five. Despite these highlights, he remains 81 points below the playoff cutoff, landing in 18th in the playoff standings as the season nears its 23rd race.

Last season marked a rare disappointment for Busch, as the Richard Childress Racing No. 8 Chevrolet driver missed the playoffs for the first time under the current format and finished 20th in the final standings, ending a record 19-year streak of winning at least one Cup race per season.

Looking Ahead to Iowa and the Road to a Record

The next crucial test for Busch and his rivals arrives at Iowa Speedway in Newton on August 3, where last year’s Cup event saw him exit before the finish after not completing all 350 laps. The race is poised to be a pivotal point in his pursuit of a playoff berth, while also serving as preparation for his continued run toward an eighth Summer Shootout victory in 2026—a milestone that would further cement his status among legends of the Masters Division.

With the spotlight firmly on Kyle Busch as he chases the Summer Shootout record and seeks to spark a turnaround in his Cup Series fortunes, both fans and competitors are keenly watching for what he will accomplish next in this intense and unpredictable racing season.
