He one time drove down and bought one of Mark Martin’s race cars and tried asphalt racing and that didn’t really work out…dirt racing and then snowmobile racing. But hearing all of his stories growing up, like ‘wow, I really wanna do this’. So, it was between two things.
Alongside her interest in motorsports, Decker also considered pursuing a medical career, influenced by her own health challenges with an autoimmune disease and frequent hospital stays during her youth.
“I always said that I wanted to be a racecar driver or a doctor because I have an autoimmune disease and I was in the hospital a lot. I was ‘like this is really cool, I want this job, this looks fun’.”
From Karting Champion to Professional Ranks
Decker’s official racing career began with go-karts, where she rapidly found success by securing four track championships in her home state. Building on her early victories, she advanced to larger racing divisions, claiming the CWSSA Super Stock championship and earning top honors in the Limited Late Model category.
Her ascent continued with significant achievements in the Midwest Truck Tour and the Triple Crown Super Truck Series. A pivotal milestone came with her selection for the Drive for Diversity initiative in 2013 and 2014, reflecting both her potential and her growing presence in the racing community. Driving the No. 92 Chevrolet for Jesse Iwuji Motorsports and DGM Racing, she finished in 22nd place, demonstrating resilience and a renewed competitive spirit.
“DAYTONA first race back since having my son 6 months ago & over a year since I have been in the seat. I was excited, nervous and thankful for the opportunity. Thank you everyone who made this possible & all who supported my motherhood journey coming back to the track as a driver.”
Sharing her experience, Decker explained the joy of bringing her son to the racetrack and the significance of continuing a family tradition of raising children in the high-paced world of motorsports. Her return marked her 13th career Xfinity start and was her second-best finish in the series, following an 18th-place result in the 2024 Daytona season opener.
