Cindric’s performance in the NASCAR Cup Series Round of 12 opener was hindered by his qualifying position, and he admitted the result stemmed from issues he felt were within his control during qualifying at Kansas Speedway during a media session on September 24.
“I definitely view it as a missed opportunity in a few ways. Obviously, having great runs from all of the cars that came out of that shop, I think, one, it starts in qualifying. I think a lot of that was on me, just not getting the lap,” Austin Cindric said.
Starting 22nd on the grid for the short track event, Cindric managed to advance to 18th by the conclusion of the first stage. However, contact on a restart resulted in nose damage to his No. 2 Ford, and subsequent repairs set him back. The remainder of the race brought more challenges, including diminished speed in Stage 3, leading to a 17th-place finish that left him without stage points. The outcome left him facing a 19-point gap to the next round with only two races remaining in this playoff phase.
“It was a pretty challenging stage 3 to come back up through the field after doing some repairs for that. I definitely see it as a missed opportunity to start the round off well and that’s what we’re gonna need to do,” Cindric added.

“I’m not getting ahead of my skis here at all, but I think from our standpoint you have to look at it realistically and think that we’re gonna have to go out and have two of our best weeks of the year to go make this happen on points, but I think those are two tracks that we’re capable of doing that,” Austin Cindric said.
While Kansas has posed difficulties, including a 34th-place showing in last year’s playoff race due to challenging car set-up and changing track conditions, Cindric and Team Penske remain determined.
