Justin Allgaier Finishes Third in Heart-Pounding Phoenix Raceway Showdown

Justin Allgaier Finishes Third: In the aftermath of Saturday’s heart-wrenching NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Phoenix Raceway, Justin Allgaier found himself once again falling short of his elusive first championship, settling for third place behind Cole Custer. Allgaier, making his sixth appearance in the Championship 4, had a golden opportunity on the race’s final restart. Positioned on the outside of race leader Custer, he aimed to seize victory. However, as they approached the white flag, Allgaier’s bold move into the third corner didn’t quite pay off, causing him to wash up the track and lose ground to Custer and Sheldon Creed.

Reflecting on the pivotal moment, Allgaier acknowledged his aggressive approach: “I drove in there pretty deep and just kind of washed up. [Custer] had the turning car all night, and we were just a bit too free.”

The race had its share of challenges for Allgaier, especially after an early spin when he made contact with John  Hunter Nemechek‘s left-side door. Miraculously avoiding major damage, he faced an uphill battle to regain lost track position. Despite this setback, the No. 7 BRANDT Chevrolet swiftly returned to the front, showcasing Allgaier’s resilience.

The closing laps saw Allgaier trailing Custer and Nemechek, but a late caution provided a glimmer of hope. Both Allgaier and his JR Motorsports teammate Sam Mayer were rapidly gaining ground on the leaders, setting the stage for a potential victory. Allgaier lamented the timing of the last caution, disrupting their progress: “I felt like for me, we were a little too loose on the short run. We were gaining three to five-tenths a lap on both Cole [Custer] and John Hunter [Nemechek], and it was going to be right on their bumper at the end of the race. We did everything right. We just had too good of a long-run car and not quite enough on the short run.”

Despite the disappointment of missing out on another Xfinity Series title, Allgaier found solace in his performance: “All in all, it was a good night for us. I walked out of here last year really bummed about the way the night went because I felt like I didn’t do a good job. Tonight, I walked out of here, I gave 100 percent. We did everything right. Just didn’t work out for us.”

Despite the bittersweet outcome, Allgaier remains determined and optimistic about the future, eagerly looking forward to the next opportunity at Daytona International Speedway in February: “Proud of the effort, and we’ll be back. We’ve got two months until Daytona, and we’ll come back stronger and try to get to Victory Lane again.”
