Nick Sanchez immediately dedicated his race win to his crew chief, Chris Showalter, upon exiting his truck, eager to explain Showalter’s critical role in the team’s success.

“I mean he’s the backbone of the team,” Sanchez stated. “And I think everyone on the team would agree. I was with him last year, and it’s like having two or three crew chiefs, and Showie would be one of them, right? He’s someone that he knows what he wants in a truck and sometimes he calls his shot setup-wise. He’s so important and he’s been doing this so long.”

The dedication was particularly poignant as it marked Showalter’s 700th race and coincided with his birthday.

“Today was his birthday, it was his 700th race and it all worked out perfect.” – Sanchez

Showalter’s career began with Liberty Racing and driver Butch Miller during the inaugural Truck season in 1995. He quickly made a name for himself, moving to ThorSport Racing for a year before joining Joe Gibbs Racing with drivers J.D. Gibbs and Coy Gibbs. His journey continued with Rev Racing, where he became the truck chief for the No. 2 during Sanchez’s rookie campaign. Under his leadership, the team has achieved significant success, including eight top fives, 20 top 10s, seven pole awards, and a win at the season-opening race at Daytona in 2024.

“It was great starting off the season with a win,”

“More importantly, it was a testament to how hard the team works to bring the best truck each week to the track. I am extremely lucky to work with and rely on Showie and the guys. His knowledge is vast, and his experience is extremely beneficial to our race success. Cheers to 700 on a day that also happens to be his birthday. We are hopeful to celebrate in Victory Lane.” – Sanchez

Nick Sanchez Wins

Nick Sanchez, who began the season with his first career win at Daytona, delivered an impressive performance to secure his second victory of the 2024 NASCAR Truck Series. In a race filled with dramatic turns and strategic maneuvers, Sanchez chased down Christian Eckes to take the lead with just eight of the 134 laps remaining.

Sanchez, driving the No. 2 Chevrolet for Rev Racing, faced a formidable challenge from Corey Heim in the final laps. Despite Heim’s hard charge, Sanchez managed to edge him out by a mere 0.507 seconds, showcasing his skill and determination. This win not only marked Sanchez’s second triumph of the season but also earned him a $50,000 bonus as part of the Triple Truck Challenge.

“We started off bad. We knew it. It did not affect us and we went to work. It put us in position when it mattered most. It’s great to get (win) No. 2.” – Sanchez

Heim, who dominated much of the race by winning the first two stages and leading a race-high 72 laps, encountered critical setbacks during pit stops. Issues with the jack cost him vital track positions, complicating his path back to the front late in the race. Additionally, NASCAR disqualified Heim’s No. 11 TRICON Toyota Tundra after finding three loose lug nuts, stripping him of his runner-up result.

What Happened in the Race

As a result, Stewart Friesen finished third, Grant Enfinger took fourth, and Matt Mills rounded out the top five. The top ten were completed by Ben Rhodes, Jake Garcia, Kaden Honeycutt, Connor Mosack, and Dean Thompson.

The race’s first stage saw Heim take an early lead, cruising to a victory by 4.194 seconds over Honeycutt, with Tanner Gray, Rajah Caruth, and Ty Majeski completing the top five. Heim continued his dominance into Stage 2, reclaiming the lead from Gray and winning by 4.612 seconds. However, a penalty for removing equipment during his pit stop forced Honeycutt to restart from the rear.

The final stage began with Heim leading but a multi-car accident on the restart shuffled the field. A subsequent wreck involving Matt Crafton led most of the lead lap trucks to pit for new tires and fuel, but Heim’s truck fell off the jack, pushing him to the back.

Chase Purdy, who stayed on track, inherited the lead with 47 laps remaining. Eckes moved into the lead with 40 laps to go as Heim fought his way back to eighth. With 20 laps left, Eckes, Purdy, and Honeycutt were battling closely for the lead, but fuel concerns loomed over the drivers. Purdy’s tire failure and subsequent caution with 15 laps remaining reshuffled the field again.

Eckes chose not to pit, retaining the lead on the restart with nine laps to go. However, Sanchez capitalized on this, overtaking Eckes with eight laps remaining and maintaining his position to the finish line despite Heim’s relentless pursuit on fresher tires.
